内容記述 | This paper aims to present an overall theoretical framework of the process of visual interpolation. A psychophysical or geometric model, Kellman & Shipley (1991), and several neural or neurophysiological models are discussed. From the early extraction of edges and junctions to the higher process of boundary assignment and figure-ground perception, several issues are emphasized to explain visual interpolation. Arnodal and modal completion in illusory contour perception are discussed from the viewpoint of the geometric model. The boundary interpolation process suggested from the geometric model is compared with several neural models. Generality of the notion of relatability and identity hypothesis and its extension to the spatio-temporal domain are suggested. It is also suggested, that geometric and neurophysiological modeling approaches serve complementary functions. | |||||
