| 内容記述 | Numeral quantifier floating in Japanese is generally said to be restricted to the subject of intransitive verbs and the object of transitive verbs. Previous works, whether from a syntactic, semantic or functional point of view, have not succeeded in a full account of the properties of Japanese quantifier floating, because the factual evidence presented is not sufficient to support their claims. In particular, the case of a quantified argument preceded by some modifying phrase tends to be a counterexample to their proposals. Based on the analysis of the actual instances of floated quantifiers collected from some written texts, I will point out that the concept of "relative newness" should be taken into account : a floated quantifier must carry relatively newer information than its antecedent. | |||||
