| 内容記述 | What we call 'Retroactive Constructions' in this paper include three types of complements taken by a certain class of predicates : derived nominals, gerundive nominals and more clausal type of gerunds following worth. Through a survey of the previous researches, the properties of each construction are clarified. In particular we concentrate on the status of empty categories which characterize the constructions. It is claimed that the syntactic differences among the three types are due to the different empty objects contained and that no NP preposing rule should be applied to any of them. This will be a promising approach to an explanatory account of the historical developments and fluctuating status of these constructions. | |||||
